Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex

What is P-DTR?

PDTR is based on the concept of the neuromuscular reflex arc, which involves the interaction between muscles, nerves, and the brain. This technique takes a deep understanding of how the nervous system works and allows us to ensure that information being sent from the nerve endings around the body, known as receptors, are sending correct information to the brain.

The brain receives information from two main sources: our senses and our receptor system.

Our senses include smell, touch, taste and hearing, while our receptor system which is made up of nerve endings around the body that send information to the brain to keep it informed about what's going on. However, these receptors can become sensitized or overstimulated, even after an injury has healed, which can cause chronic pain and dysfunction.

The brain processes this information through past memories, emotions, and experiences to determine if there is any danger. If the brain senses a threat, it creates an output to protect you, often resulting in pain and weakness to change behaviour. PDTR helps to identify areas of dysfunction, reset reflexes, and restore balance to the neuromuscular system.
